The Diseased West

Kyle Bristow - 3/18/2008

Nations are organic, because just like an organism, they are born, mature, decline in strength, and eventually die. To what degree of power and prestige they achieve during their lifetime is dependent upon the people of the nation. If the people are collectively prudent, courageous, and dedicated to their nation, the nation can attain great strength. When the citizens of a nation lose their national identity—either through a decline in historical understanding or a decrease in national saliency—the nation grows weak. This weakness amounts to a sickness that patriots of a nation must cure if the nation is to survive.

Western civilization is diseased by a sickness that may be terminal. It saddens me to contemplate the death of the West, but if anything is to be done about it—if anything can be done—to secure Western civilization for future generations, a candid discussion on the issue is necessary.

The beginning of the end of Western culture began with the Marxist-operated Frankfurt School. This think-tank was established in Germany prior to World War II, but had to leave the country when the Nazis rose to power. The Frankfurt School did not flee to communist Russia, but to the United States, where Western tolerance for free speech allowed the Marxist ideology to spread and take root. The acceptance and tolerance for the ideas of the Frankfurt School contributed to what can be termed “culturecide”—the elimination or attempted elimination of the culture of a nation. Since culture is at the heart of all nations, the people who accepted and promoted the principles of the Frankfurt School were really force-feeding their nations ideological cyanide.

In Patrick Buchanan’s Death of the West, he quotes what one supporter of the Frankfurt School said of Critical Theory, the weapon that the Marxists devised to subvert Western culture: “[Critical Theory is] essentially destructive criticism of all the main elements of Western culture, including Christianity, capitalism, authority, the family, patriarchy, hierarchy, morality, tradition, sexual restraint, loyalty, patriotism, nationalism, heredity, ethnocentrism, convention, and conservatism.”

According to Buchanan, “Under Critical Theory, anything emanating from the West is to be libeled and attacked. . . All blame for societal and economic ills are to be shifted to the West.” Since repetition impresses the subconscious, Westerners are made to believe that their cultural heritage is evil and should be done away with.

Historical revisionism is also done by Marxists to attack Western culture. This is the process by which history is altered so that heroes are made to be villains and victories made into defeats. In essence, this displaces a people from their history. For example, in contemporary America, students in high schools and colleges are told that: Christopher Columbus did not discover the New World, but rather, that he ruined paradise; Christianity is not good, it is evil and oppressive; and the Founding Fathers who selflessly risked their lives to secure liberty were not heroes, but rather, were hypocrites because some of them owned slaves. A people who do not know their own history will not know who they are. A disbelief in a common history will disunite a nation, which will greatly weaken it.

Historical revisionism, which poses as a dire threat to Western culture, is already well established in the United States. According to an article in the USA Today, “Teens losing touch with common cultural and historical references” (2/26/08), out of 1,200 American 17-year-olds who were surveyed about history, 57 percent did not know that the American Civil War was fought between 1850 and 1900, 48 percent could not identify the theme of George Orwell’s 1984, 49 percent did not know that the controversy involving Senator Joe McCarthy involved communism, and 12 percent did not know that Pearl Harbor caused America to enter World War II.

What is interesting to note about the survey is that it reported that 97 percent of the students surveyed knew that Martin Luther King, Jr. was the one who recited the “I Have a Dream Speech.” This is evidence that educators are more interested in shoving diversity down the throats of their students rather than actually teaching real history.

Diversity and multiculturalism are central to the ideology of those who wish to murder Western civilization. Diversity preaches moral relativism, and multiculturalism advocates the asinine premise that cultural homogeneity and unity are somehow intrinsically unacceptable. The battle plan of those who have besieged Western civilization is one of a “divide and conquer” strategy.

In contemporary Western society, some people of the Occident are enthralled by the idea of combating AIDS in Africa, ending genocide in Darfur, spreading democracy abroad, defending Islamic Kosovo’s right to secede from Serbia (and thereby creating the first Islamic country on the continent since Charles Martel expelled the Islamic Moors from Europe over a millennia ago), encouraging Third World people to immigrate to Western countries, and promoting human rights in Third World countries. Is it not both fascinating and sad that these Westerners are more interested in helping foreigners abroad than securing their own and their countrymen’s destinies? This wretchedness will be punished in time as Western countries become weaker and weaker as they put the interests of foreign people’s above their own.

In Jean Raspail’s novel, The Camp of the Saints, he describes the subversives who are opposed to Western civilization very well:

“You know... there’s a very old word that describes the kind of men [they] are. It’s ‘traitor.’ That’s all, [they’re] nothing new. There have been all kinds. We’ve had bishop traitors, knight traitors, general traitors, statesmen traitors, scholar traitors, and just plain traitors. It’s a species the West abounds in, and it seems to get richer and richer the smaller it grows. Funny, you would think that it should be the other way around.”

When Rome was sacked by the Visigoths in 480 A.D., the defeated Romans begged the Germanic barbarians to not steal their property, rape their wives, or kidnap their children. The savages purportedly replied heartlessly to their pleas in Latin with “Vae Victoribus,” which translates into English to mean “Woe to the Victors.” Rome fell, because no Roman stood up for their people in a time when they had the opportunity to do so. Over 200 years prior to the barbarian invasion, Rome had abandoned her culture.

In Aelius Aristides Panegyric on Rome, he praised the cultural treason that the Roman government had committed. He said:

“Neither sea nor intervening continents are bars to citizenship, or are Asia and Europe divided in their treatment here. In [Rome’s] empire all paths are open to all. No one worthy of rule or trust remains an alien, but a civil community of the world has been established, as a democracy under one man, the best man, ruler and teacher of order; and all are come together as into a common civic center, in order each man receive his due.”

The stage was set for the barbarian sacking of Rome when the Roman people lost their cultural identity. They were no longer part of an exclusive identity that was to be defended, but rather, belonged to what contemporary globalists dub “citizens of the world.”

What is at stake is our economic prosperity, our freedom, our families, our culture, and our civilization’s right to exist. We need to defend our destiny, or we will have no future to look forward to. It is of paramount concern that the preservation of Western civilization takes precedent over more mundane issues. Whether or not it is we or foreigners who get to say “Vae Victoribus” in the future is solely up to us.

As for me, I will not grovel before the savages like the defeated Romans. It is time the culture war is fought and won.

Kyle Bristow was until recently the chairman of Young Americans for Freedom chapter of Michigan State University, which had become famous due to its lively and controversial meetings under his leadership.
