Obama's Pastor and Politics of Noam Chomsky

Iqbal Latif - 3/19/2008

Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not chant "God Bless America" but "God damn America." Obama's Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, has a record of what even Obama's Campaign aides declare is 'Inflammatory Rhetoric.' My opinion is that Jeremiah Wright is a fervent pastor affronted by the injustices of the system. The rhetoric of the pastor is Politics of Noam Chomsky. Chomsky has stated that his "personal visions are fairly traditional anarchist ones, with origins in libertarian socialism. It is obvious that Obama has found inspiration and motivation in his pastor's rage and therefore he has been stimulated not to abhor his country, but to improve it. However even if we were to give this benefit of the doubt to Barack one thing is certain; Barack either agreed with what was preached from the Trinity pulpit, or he stayed around for political reasons.

Sen. Obama said, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." He said Rev. Wright "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with," Rev. Wright married Obama and his wife Michelle, baptized their two daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope."

An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found common censure of the U.S. based on what he described as his interpretation of the Gospels and the handling of black Americans.

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

In addition to damning America, he told his parishioners on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.

Sadly the language above is exactly what can be mistaken with the most hardened enemies of USA. (1) Barack Obama has denounced remarks made by his pastor in 2001 comments, that the 9/11 attacks were like "chickens coming home to roost" as "completely inexcusable".

However, Obama looks to be in denial entirely. It is an incredible denial as someone termed it in a letter in America thinker. He has been in a company of someone who believed in politics of Noam Chomsky for the last for 20 years. To choose the kind of rhetoric one wants to hear on a Sunday sermon is ones own choice. The choice is easier if the political stage is limited to being Senator of Illinois but on larger Presidential canvass to own up these political inclinations close to libertarian socialism on a broader political scale, altogether it is a different issue.

Our minds are shaped up by the person with whom we intellectually associate with, that is how we are groomed. Ideological grooming at least by experience is even more damaging; the sermons of hate from pulpits of mosques have destroyed a whole generation. To listen to nonsense which is ‘inexcusable’ for 20 years for a highly gifted person is not easy. In our part of the world, we suffer greatly because of this indoctrination of the radicals. Those who adopt radical leaderships unquestionably intellectually lean towards them. If I would have sat for 20 years in a company of a radical person, my thought process and analytical abilities would evolve quite differently. I don’t think the Democratic Party would be so charitable to any Islamic prospective leader attending a radical mosque under a radical leader enchanted by the fringe elements of the society, I dare not compare Mr. Jeremiah Wright with Aiyman Al-Zahwari. Perhaps on grade of non sense both stand on equal pedestal.

Those rare commodities like us who thought of 9/11 very differently from Noam Chomsky and considered Obama’s voting record much as we disagreed with it as an aberration can now relate to the setting he has been brought up in. This rampant liberalism and rainbow coalition will only add more misery to untying knots of a very complicated world. Appeasement has never worked and self flagellation and self censure in face of dangerous terrorists is encouragement to the terror tentacles.

Owning up and responsibility is an act of immense virtue, I think Mr. Obama should own up his sympathetic leanings towards the political divide that Jeremiah Wright adheres too. I own up without remorse my political inclinations although my views are not in currency with my people, but is this not what intellectual integrity a man should display, in my opinion Mr. Obama falls short on that test. The change that he talks about cannot come about through double talk; let him be faithful about his true beliefs like other great liberals and leftists.

The one other thing I cannot come to terms with is the length and continuity of association. If comments made in 2001 were that inexcusable, what kept Mr. Obama going back to the same pastor. I am sure that Jeremiah Wright ‘inexcusable’ comments were not hidden from most of the parishioners. He must have been made aware of these comments in due course of time; to call them inexcusable now is nothing but political expediency. To visit Wright for 20 years and end up disagreeing with his preaching is nothing short of political expediency.

The arbitrarily abandonment of an ideological guru indicates that mainstream American find Mr. Jeremiah Wright comments despicable, gutting an old uncle as ‘inexcusable’ for what was music for 20 years is a last ditch attempt to fashion a new acceptable political roadmap to gain the middle ground in USA. The prospects of such a rudderless appeasing leadership have left the loonies of the world drooling with expectations. We now know exactly what he means by these cushioned words of “engaging in aggressive personal diplomacy” and talk to the regime without preconditions. American Presidency and its aftermath on global affairs loams over everything else, for the stability and security of the world clarity and definition of those who threaten the very foundation of civilisation have to be clearly identified, here is a potential ‘problem of judgement’ in identification of who is friend and foe, and this is a major downer.

1. USA - The biggest terrorist state in the world since the terrorists attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which killed more than 1.4 million Japanese. September 11 and the "War on Terror" are fake wars, planned and executed only by the Bush Administration in order to attack other countries and defend American interests.
