Home >> Europe >> Great Britain Email Print Open Letter to Prime Minister Brown Regarding the Lisbon Treaty Lorna Thomas - 7/1/2008 In a 2007 interview with ITN you stated that there is:
“No freedom of association, no freedom of the press, no freedom for the people of Zimbabwe. This is a tragedy that requires the whole of the world to speak up and also to act.”
You said in the interview: “We want elections, democracy, freedom for the people of Zimbabwe...”
But have you considered that many of the people of Britain fear that Europe, under the Lisbon Treaty with its influential new leadership roles and extension of powers, could also be set on a path of dictatorship which could come to implement the very same things you have condemned?
The people of Britain have wanted the choice of whether or not to be part of a system that could in the future take away their “freedom of association”, “freedom of the press” and indeed their very “freedom”.
You have pledged to the people of Britain that you will not let them down. But many people in Britain have very serious misgivings over the direction Europe could take and the fact that negotiated “red lines” offer little or no protection for Britain.
There have been repeated requests for a referendum by the people of Britain, because they feel they may pay an extremely high price in the EU under the Lisbon Treaty.
If they are not given the choice, in a country whose leadership lauds democratic principles and freedom, though the people may pay the price, it will be those have who led Britain into the EU who are accountable for this decision and consequences.
Mr Brown, for a number of years I have written that Russia would be integrated into Europe in terms of political, economic, military and religious spheres. This is becoming increasingly apparent, including a common EU-Russia security plan discussed in Berlin and Siberia in June 2008 by President Medvedev, a proposal first put forward by President Putin in 2000 as a joint missile defense system.
Do not be deceived, Mr Brown. Europe is set on a course from which it will not deviate - whether Britain is part of Europe or not. Statements have been made at a high level in the past and recently showing Europe is prepared to move ahead without Britain or Ireland.
It is German and Russian leadership that will be at the basis of a reformed Europe - not British.
Britain is not going to be at the centre or the heart of Europe in terms of decision making or influence - Germany and Russia will.
The leadership of the European Union in its final composition will have absolute control over politics, law, military, economics, religion. It will not be based on democracy or freedom.
It is of note that God specifically warned ancient Israel in Ex 34 of the danger of making a covenant with other nations in case it led to idolatry, provoking Him to anger and bringing punishment upon them.
Unless Britain makes the right choices, it too faces tragedy in the coming years.
Following ratification of the Treaty by the British Parliament on 18 June, 2008 and the Queen's assent on 19 June, 2008 and prior to the instruments of ratification being delivered to Rome, I would ask you to please consider this letter and the points made in the article below.
Sincerely
