Home >> Middle East >> Iran Email Print Italian Senators and MPs condemn pressures and limitations on Ashraf Shahriar Kia - 3/24/2009 In a press conference in Italian Parliament in Rome, a number of prominent members of Italian Senate and Parliament condemned the limitations and impositions of pressures dictated by the clerical regime of Iran against Ashraf residents and asked the Unites States to stand for its commitments regarding protection of Ashraf.
In this conference Senator Marco Perduca, member of Senate Foreign Commission and Secretary of Human Rights Carlo Ciccioli, Deputy chairman of Public Health Commission from the ruling coalition and chairman of the Committee of Italian Parliamentarians and citizens for Free Iran.
Elizabetta Zamparutti, member of Parliament from the Radical party, and co-chair of the Committee of Italian Parliamentarians and citizens for Free Iran Roberto Rosso, deputy chairman of the Italian Parliament's Commission of Agriculture from the ruling Party Amalia Schirru, member of Parliament from Democratic Party Juan Carlo Bozelli, deputy Mayor of the city of Cuneo Dr. Antonio Stango, chairman of the Italian Committee of Helsinki participated.
In his speech Senator Marco Perduca said:' Today I am going to have a meeting with the Foreign Minister and I shall talk with him about Ashraf situation; we, representatives shall write letters to the Iraqi Embassy in Italy and ask them of the situation in Ashraf; the next step would be going to Ashraf to evaluate the situation closely, particularly at this condition when Italy wants to have a more extensive relations with Iraq; but presently the refugee's rights are violated and they prevent entry of logistics.'
The next speaker was Elizabetta Zamparutti who said: 'Tomorrow, the Foreign Ministry will answer to our written question that is signed by 50 parliamentarians; the Italian government had already pledged in a resolution to remove the PMOI from the terrorist list; the resolution contained also the article of support of Ashraf and observance of its residents' rights.'
Carlo Ciccioli, Deputy Chairman of Public Health Commission from the ruling coalition, said “Ever since Ashraf’s protection was delivered from the U.S. to the Iraqi government, that part of Iraqi government which is close to the Iranian regime, is putting pressure on Ashraf and wants them to surrender. But we are alert and follow the issues there. I want to go to Ashraf along with European parliamentarians and visit there and not leave them alone.' Shahriar Kia is a political analyst and spokesman for the residents of Camp Ashraf, Iraq, where he resides. Shahriar was educated in the United States, graduating from the University of Texas, in computer science.
