Home >> Middle East >> Iran Email Print Mullah's downfall in Iran has reached the point of no return Shahriar Kia - 1/28/2010 The uprising of Iranian people has rocked the foundations of the Iranian regime, and the regime has reached the point of no return on the road to its downfall. Mullahs in Iran, for their survival, have planned to pursue a widespread suppression of Iranian people, in particular the members and relatives of the PMOI, the main opposition.
Since the uprising on December 27, the officials of the regime and the state-run media have been calling constantly for killing the PMOI members. A member of the regime’s Assembly of Experts named Alam al-Hoda who is also the Friday prayer leader in the city of Mashhad, second largest city in Iran, on December 30 said: “The PMOI commanded the move on December 27… Imam [Ayatollah Khomeini] said, whoever cooperates with the PMOI is waging war on God whoever instigated the turmoil on Ashura is Mohareb [warrior against God].” The punishment for Mohareb under the clerical rule is execution and tens of thousands of political prisoners have been executed for the same reason in 1988.
Simultaneous with the nationwide uprisings in Iran the regime is more desperate than ever to suppress the residents of Ashraf. The execution verdicts for relatives of Ashraf residents for having visited them in Ashraf have added to the current pressures exerted on the residents by Iraqi government at the behest of Iranian Mullahs under the pretext of "Iraqi sovereignty". In his recent visit to Baghdad, the Iranian regime Foreign Minister, Mottaki who is known as the person in charge of terrorist and kidnapping operations outside Iran, particularly in Turkey against members of the PMOI, demanded more repression on PMOI members in camp Ashraf. The demand has taken to Iraqi government after the failure of the Iranian regime's repressive plot for forcible displacement of Ashraf residents to a remote notorious outpost in Neqrat al-Salman southern part of Iraq in December 15.
In his interview with the Iranian News Network TV, December 20, 2009, Kazemie Qumie the Iranian regime's ambassador in Baghdad and a commander of the Qods Force referred to the displacement of Ashraf residents and said:" Unfortunately because of the policy of the European Union and the pressures that European Union is exerting on the Iraqi government they are emphasizing that they must remain in Iraq and this is a political pressure. ..But of course you know, right now the Iraqi government is facing with different problems like security issue or the election and these are the issues that they are really facing and we are aware of these problems so naturally they cannot pursue the issue of expulsion as fast as they would like but this is something that definitely will happen. We are hopeful the situation will become such that the Iraqi government can pursue and finish this project easily"
Today many international organizations and political figures as well as Iraqi people condemned Iraqi authorities for excluding the Iraqi political parties and its leaders in upcoming elections who are seeking an independent Iraq, and are standing against Iranian regime's incursions into Iraq territory. This is while the people of Iraq are protesting against the silence of top Iraqi authorities about oil wells that has been occupied by Iranian regime and has violated Iraqi sovereignty.
Now, the world is monitoring with open eyes the treatment of Ashraf residents by Iraqi Government. This is considered as a major yardstick to assess the government’s independence, its respect for democratic norms and practices, and its commitment to international treaties and conventions.
The inhumane blockade of Ashraf imposed since the beginning of this year, preventing medicine, medical doctors, and fuel from entering the camp, and not allowing families of Ashraf residents and their lawyers to visit them in the camp as well as human rights activists being barred from going there; and the refusal to return stolen vehicles and properties of Ashraf resident have outraged the whole international community.
While reminding the Articles 52-53 of The Hague Conventions and Article 55 of the Fourth Geneva Convention; and emphasizing the fact that denial of Ashraf residents of their rights to their properties is a clear violation of international law and the fundamental rights specified in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; Ashraf residents calls on the United Nations Secretary General (UNSG), the UN Security Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNSG's Special Representative for Iraq and UNAMI (United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq) to take immediate measures to put an end to Ashraf siege and return of confiscated and stolen properties of Ashraf residents.
