Interview with Vladimir Hucin: The Communists Strive for Power in Europe

RM: Mr. Hucin, there were charges against you that you discussed with JR Norqvist in March 2002. Can you update us on what has happened regarding your case since then?

VH: The Constitutional Court (CR) decided that judicial decision of custody, its extension, was unlawful. There were also attempts made to exclude my defense lawyer, former BIS director Stanislav Devaty, from my process, with an intentional excuse of him not having a security clearance. Even here, the Constitutional Court decided in this matter, and with its promulgation of a judgment it was decided there there is no need for my defense lawyer to be subjected to a security clearance.

Since 2001, the District Court in Prerov (Moravia, CR) has only managed to open the case with the last count of 7 charges against me, and this being the fact that before and after my arrest and custodial imprisonment I was on a sick leave prescribed to me by my local medical practitioner, Dr. Jan Chmelar.

In this case, even Dr. Chmelar is charged with fraud (!) together with me, because while in prison, I received the sickness benefit in the amount of 7,600 Czech crowns (app. 238 USD) on my bank account. This amount was later (after I was let out of the prison) sent back to the Social Security account...

This charge, of course, serves only one purpose - to drag the trial as long as possible. The hearing of this charge (on June 22nd) was adjourned again to late July - the witness for the prosecution didn´t show up.

Other hearings in my process are not to be disclosed to the public because of "classified information" content. It is therefore necessary that the public strongly protests against this as the aim of closed trial is to hide the facts from public and media.

In the meantime I am often summoned by police for questioning. Former SNB (former state security) members and StB (former communist secret service) collaborators keep lodging criminal information concerning my revealing their criminal and compromised past.

RM: It is obvious that former communists and their friends are involved in a conspiracy to preserve their power and wealth. Is there any evidence that this has threatened American national security?

VH: As a BIS (security and intelligence service) officer I worked on the problem of extremism - terrorism. For almost the whole period of my service with BIS I was drawing the superiors´ attention to the activities of communists which were targeted to stir up the anti-American feelings in the country. When it became clearly evident that behind the still "unsolved" terrorist attacks in Prerov (including the attack against the registered office of KPV - Confederation of Political Prisoners) are communists, my further operative activity was made impossible.

For example, when I was monitoring intelligence contacts of Cuban representative David Paulovich at the UV KSCM (District Committee of Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia) in Prerov relating to the left extremists, I was forbidden to continue. The thing concerned the preparing of communist activities to incite anti-American opinions. In this connection, for example, I brought proofs of the left extremists´ contacts with representatives of Iraq, Iran, Palestine and other countries, during which money was exchanged as well.

RM: It appears that the former communists and their mafia allies have been more successful in infiltrating the Czech Republic than other Eastern European countries. Why is this so?

VH: Over the years communists have established an extensive influence on society in the Czech Republic. For example, the highest posts in security forces of Northern Moravia are all filled by former communist stalwarts linked with today´s KSCM.

As a BIS officer I represented a considerable threat to their existence as I systematically pointed out the security danger and risks related with their influence on the Czech security after joining NATO. In several cases I produced the evidence of police personnel´ secret memberships in the Communist party, for example, the case of Stanislav Podeprel who as a secret member of KSC died after the explosion at the Prerov police station in 1999 - on the very day the Czech Republic became an ally in NATO.

Many "former" members of communist security forces, judges and other compromised people are behind the scenes of my process - behind the trumped-up charges and behind my dismissal from BIS.

RM: Why should Americans care about the corruption in Czech Republic? There is corruption everywhere.

VH: I never specialized in corruption. It is quite evident, though, that post-communist structures have at their disposal sizable financial means which they use to strengthen their positions.

RM: The Czechs have been helpful in countering France in Europe and helping in Iraq and other areas. Do you believe that, although these corrupt people have preserved their power, they can be worked with in such ways?

VH: Here I would recommend the US security forces to be very, very alert.

RM: Why are some measures being taken against you personally? Are such false charges common in the country?

VH: As I have already mentioned before, I participated in security clearances, and by doing so I threatened the positions of judges, state prosecutors, policemen and other people working in the state administration. In this field of work I used my experience and also materials - documents that I managed to save from being destroyed in 1989.

If I accepted the fact that the "former" communist followers are again very influential, e.g. in judiciary system, etc., I would never have these problems...

RM: Do the former communists in power have any connections to the ones also in power in Russia?

VH: Yes. I proved this in several particular cases.

RM: Is there any evidence the former communists in power have connections with terrorists or are passing intelligence to enemies of the West?

VH: Since my commencement of service with BIS, I often received information proving a considerable sympathy on the part of KSC towards those who with the help of terrorist attacks the American interest.

I wouldn´t like to be specific here as this would endanger my sources - nevertheless, the evidence will be produced in the courtroom, and it should be one of the main reasons for demanding public hearings.

RM: How far does the corruption reach? I mean certainly not all former communists are going to be involved in the conspiracy.

VH: Again, I am not an expert on corruption but I know that communists have a considerable capital available and they are using it to secure their interests. Because they also have their people in the important decisive positions, they advocate own influence through them.

It cannot be claimed that all former communists are involved in unlawful activities or conspiracy. Quite a number of these "former" communists use their contacts and links for their benefit, within the scope of "business".

RM: Are these former communists loyal to the Marxist-Leninist ideology? Or are they just out to preserve their own power and wealth?

VH: Certainly not, but in many cases they keep supporting communist activities. By doing so they secure the influence for themselves in case the KSCM gains the decisive power officially again. It has to be said and warned that sons and daughters of the "former" communists (and StBs) hold the leading positions in the justice system, state prosecutor offices, etc. From these positions they can easily guarantee the appropriate influence to their interests.

In conclusion I want to apologize for not giving more particulars - the process against me doesn´t allow to be more specific at this time.
